Tally-ho!

I like wearing outfits that are a little costumey, so when I got this pair of Aigle rubber riding boots from Martin+Osa, I thought, "Oh, I'll put together a fake Ralph Lauren horsy looking number."

RL1

I forgot that the jacket actually is RL, ha ha. I don't usually go for longer jackets but this one is llama, so it's lightweight and warm and great for wet weather (I'm not wearing rain boots for fun--it rained all weekend). I thought so much charcoal gray looked a little drab so I added a vintage Valentino scarf at the neck. Then I tried to really feel like a Ralph Lauren model by looking off into the distance for a fox hunt or manor house and concentrating deeply.

RL2

It worked! I was transported. Tally-ho! I've found a fox! A fox in a maroon cable knit turtleneck!

Geisha Umbrella

I saw this umbrella on fredflare.com this morning and when I discovered they have a shop in Greenpoint, I ran over and bought her. I have a new pal! Yay!

IMG_5211

If you want your own geisha umbrella, here is a free shipping code from a card in the shopping bag: "present" exp. 1/4/2010. I tested it, it works, no minimum. Can't use on sale, and store credit or exchange only.

They have other characters too. I liked them all because I love things that look like people. I used to have a gray umbrella with a British gent in top hat and monocle for a handle. Still miss him.

Today's outfit featured two things I bought while out of town for Thanksgiving last week.

I stopped in Benetton hoping to find a sweater skirt I saw on TheFashionVoidThatIsD.C. (you can read her post on Benetton and other interesting things like marshmallows here). No dice, but I got this cashmere cardigan on sale for around 50 (not bad!). The sweater under it, which unfortunately you can't see well in these craptastic pics, came from a consignment shop. It's cotton, with an embroidered split neckline and embroidered long silk cuffs. The cuffs are fun.

Had to wear a coat today, but really wasn't that cold, I left it open.

DIY Fake Floral Frou-Frou Lampshades

I love fake things.

I have a collection of Re-Ment minis and I wish I could order every single item on their website and spend a week opening all the tiny boxes.

I covet Joelle's werewolf coat. Deeply. And when, some time ago, I saw this Pottery Barn Kids lampshade, I wanted it too:

Then I forgot about it. But then I went to DRWR Gallery, and saw the current show, Wolfgang Ryan's Ersatz, Faux, and Co. (with a title like that, I knew it would be good), which includes this piece, a mirror:

It went to the top of my Fake Things wishlist. I asked Wolfgang how he made it, and he said he collected the nicest artificial flora he could find and stapled it to the mirror frame. So I got to thinking. I already had a pair of lamps with icky old shades:

I strolled down to the dollar store, er, flower market, and dug up a glue gun. They're not in the picture, but I also needed wire snips to cut the stems off the flowers.

Threw all those things on the floor and made a huge mess, and burnt two of my fingers to a crisp with hot glue. Despite the charred fingers, it was a fun project and I was happy with how it turned out.

Real vs. fake deathmatch with bonus fake pear (lip balm) and fake pocket watch (solid perfume)!

Leather pants+Brooks Brothers=why the hell not.

leather

I've never owned leather pants before, and I didn't think I was going to own these--tried to put them on over my tights in the H&M dressing room, and--well--I couldn't pull them past my knees. Fortunately removing the tights solved the problem (I was afraid it might not). I've been wearing them a lot. They are warm and cozy without bulk. I didn't want to do an all-dark outfit, but the only light-colored jacket I have is this ivory Brooks Brothers blazer, which I rarely wear because it is a little too big and also kinda super conservative. I put a t-shirt and a fitted cropped jacket underneath the ivory one and that filled it out pretty well, and I suppose if anything is going to keep an outfit from being too conservative, it's tight leather pants. Maybe I'll get more wear out of the jacket now. I also carried a new bag, which I forgot to include in the picture, so here it is:

Really love it. The leather is so soft and it has a hot pink lining.

I wore this to see "After Miss Julie" with Sienna Miller and Jonny Lee Miller and after that I had wayyyy too many drinks. Don't drink gin on an empty stomach, kids, unless you want to wake up wondering why there is sushi rice in your hair and basically wanting to die. Think I'm going to submerge myself in the bathtub now. Still haven't recovered.

Crown Prince Alexei, is DAT CHU?

I had managed to resist the whole military/band/Balmain/Michael Jackson jacket thing by reminding myself that I already have several military-ish jackets, but on Friday I had a revelation: I already have those jackets because I LIKE military jackets, so I got this one from Forever 21. I was impressed with the cut. It fits really well. The Russian prince velvet breeches are from a DVF sample sale a while back. They are a true sample, and I guess they didn't make it to production. Why is that, I wonder?

Grocery Shopping

Good stuff at the grocery yesterday.

perrier

Pink grapefruit Perrier. Is this new? Never saw it before. I like it. More grapefruit scented than flavored. Also, another never-before-seen by me item, maraschino (?) strawberries. Aren't they pretty? No clue what to do with them but I can admire them until until 2012 when they expire.

dolly

New friend from the Energy Club. She comes with red pumps and a red brush that match her red boots, heart-shaped lollipops, and some other gross-looking candy.

I went back to the grocery today, and there also was a farmer's market near the post office, so I got more stuff.

IMG_4893

Red velvet cake, apples, Sapporo, apple cider, and this:

nougat

It is so good. I love nougat but breaking a few teeth on a big old sugary brick, not so much. This has lots of almonds and is crunchy but not rock-like. Fingerprints on the Sapporo look nice, don't they? Food photography does not appear to be my forte.

Number One Fan

Looks like Renee raided my purse and Rima's jewelry for her latest creation. I was wondering who took my gum.
